Firstly, I have been amazed at how my MacBook Pro can do torrents on Wireless. As it speaks, its downloading the new season of Prison Break at about 800KB/s without configuring anything. Literally, out of the box. This is unprecedented. I’ve never had such a painless torrent experience. Best part is, I thought that I had to do plenty of configuration. Vuze, just settled everything. (: On a wired connection, its pulling in about 1MB/s though.
If I have one complaint, its that the MBP gets too hot. I’ve never had a computer this hot before. And no, its not the sexy hot. Dashboard is telling me that my GPU is about 74 degrees celsius and my processor is clocking in at around 62 degress. That’s about good enough to cook a small egg. Worrying. I’ll be getting the two round balls at the base of the laptop very soon. Actually, this machine cannot be called a laptop. It’s way to hot too put on a lap. In any case, as Prison Break downloads, I’m going to start writing some thoughts.
I’ve spent many countless hours in the office reading about the Singapore Table Tennis fiasco on the forums and in the papers. I’ve come to one conclusion. Singaporeans don’t know what makes a Singaporean. And any attempt to try and define the “Singaporean Identity” is pointless and futile. An identity, is something that takes a while to form, grow and nurture. Kind of like our identity in Christ.
I think sometimes, we get too frustrated with ourselves that we’re not making any progress with God. So much so that we get angry and frustrated with both God and our efforts. Why we still keep sinning, why we don’t have the discipline to do our QT. I think while that desire to grow is wonderful, it should not come at such a cost. Its a slow journey, its a painful one too. But its extremely easy to understand.
Recently, I’ve started swimming. Today, for the first time, at the 21st lap, I cramped at the deep end of the pool and had to struggle my way to the edge. It was an extremley painful experience. And I think, life in Christ is somewhat like that. The previous twenty laps were simple and rather effortless. In fact, I had to push myself just to get my heart pumping a bit more. Maybe life with God is like that too. But, its a discipline. Swimming three times a week has not been easy, neither has the cutting back on food intake or the abstinence of alcohol (actually this one was easy). And that’s the reality of the life we choose to live in Christ.
My Macbook Pro has been amazing. Its a seamless operating system that really gives no trouble. Its stable and clean with zero clutter. Thus far, everything that I want to do, just works. And its fast. Computing has hardly ever been this easy and I’m very pleased with it. And oh, the Touchpad is simply great. Marcus was right when he said it was like a Touchscreen. Not exactly, but almost. (:
Anyway, I’m about to do serious work on the MBP now. Namely, Facebooking and watching Prison Break. That’s not unlike an extremely Singaporean thing to do now isn’t it.
The Identity
